Oh no, I lost it.

I never know when I will use my Electronic File for Life.

I don't only use it in the case of an Emergency. It comes in handy for doctor appointments, medication renewals, and a host of other questions. As a primary care giver I need to know the status of my loved one's medical conditions, prescriptions, and personal care needs. I am the one that sets all of her appointments, and makes sure she is there on the right day and at the right time.

This morning, I planned to confirm all of her doctor appointments, as fate would have it, I missed placed the paper printout that I always take with me. Luckily I have it all stored on an USB. What a relief that I don't have to recreate the list again of all of her emergency contacts, doctors, medications, and her medical condtions. It is also a relief to know that none of her account numbers are on that one little piece of paper.

Are you prepared?

You receive a phone call in the middle of night. There's an alarm going off at your loved one's home and they are dispatching EMS. What to do... What information to they have... Will you be able to provide the necessary information?

1. Do you have a list of their medications?
2. Do you have their insurance information?
3. Do you have their driver's license number?
4. Do you have their doctor's name, specialty, and phone number?
5. What recent surgeries have they had, and their approximate dates?

This is just a short list of some the questions you can expect in the emergency. I know because I received that call, and I was prepared with my Electronic File for Life. I won't lie, it takes time to get the information together the first time. But now that I have it all contained on an USB drive, it is easy to update the information as quickly as the doctor's can prescribe a medication, or discontinue.

I use it all the time, to make appointments and cancel appointments, contact pharmacies, doctors, dentists, even her hair stylist. For individuals that have pets I have included who to contact in case the pet owner isn't able to care for their pet.

Take the time to prepare to care for yourself, and your loved ones with the Electronic File for Life.
